Ways to fail to flatter an artisan ...

When attempting to flatter an artisan:

- soliciting items for an A&S display at the event an artisan can't attend is flattering.

- failing to acknowledge receipt of said items until explicitly asked ... is less flattering.

- failing to return the items, or even get them in the mail, four weeks after the event is over ... is not flattering ( Read more... )

Thank you. I was beginning to wonder if I was being unreasonable., now that the four week delay has manifested a second time ...

(Although in fairness, the second time the flatterer did not imply that it was my fault. They were just ... busy.)

I can understand being busy leading up to an event I was helping to run and forgetting to make time to drop the artisan a line to say 'got it'. I can even understand time slipping away after the event and 'whoops, it's four weeks already?' before getting my shit together to go to the post office. I can even (with a deep breath and an assumption of a busy life and a lack of clue in the courtesy department) just about wrap my head around asking you to arrange the return postage.

But shipping something I *asked* to borrow back to the wrong address and being anything less than weeping on the floor, grovelling for forgiveness and offering to sell my left kidney to track down where my cock-up sent your precious work is unacceptable.

Thank you! I always worry, in part because as has been pointed out, if the only thing two or more occurrences of a problem have in common is you, then you might be the problem ...

So I really appreciate the feedback.

I usually have the boxes ready to go and shipping labels printed so that as soon as the event is over, everything goes back in the box, and in the mailbox that Monday. But that's because I *know* I'm forgetful, and I cope by making things as easy as possible. :)

A) I wouldn't borrow anything unless the artist was local (so I could drive it back to their house) OR coming to the event. I wouldn't want to risk losing it in the mail. Or breaking it waiting to take it home, etc.

Ack.
