Hello happy campers, I have a question about outdoor awnings or shelters.

I’m planning to make some awnings to protect our lovely selves from the sun and I would appreciate any recommendations or thoughts about materials and paint.

What kind of fabric do you recommend? One option I’m considering is painter’s drop cloths that we cut down to size and attach grommets. Here’s a possible dropcloth option

I’ve also considered using traditional ‘fabric’ such as duck or canvas or even official ‘outdoor fabric’, although the latter seems to be very expensive. With a natural fiber will we need to seal the fabric? What should we use?

We do want to decorate the shades with some kind of paint, so that is a factor. Any thoughts on paint that will last a while and that will stand up to storage (being rolled up and such)?

Any input is appreciated!
