[Kitten likewise nods, then launches into an excited series of whistles and chirps that translate roughly to, "It's nice to meet you! Another dragon! Can you understand me?" She supposes her answer to that question will come not as a yes or a no but as a yes or confusion.

The dragon tries not to get her hopes up, reminding herself that dragons where she comes from cannot manage human speech at all; when they grow older than she is, they simply develop mindspeech that allows them to communicate with anyone.]
