I have been reading the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a vast (200,000 words, 120 chapters, with over 1,000 individual characters) ancient Chinese novel about historical and not-so-historical reality -- and it is strangely powerful

It is wonderful stuff. I love the video games too, tho they seem to have little to do with the books other than stealing the names ;)
