Intelligent Motion -- A Creationist Counter to the Theory of Gravity

Jul 22, 2008 08:13

Intelligent Design takes on the Theory of Gravity:
"Gravity is a theory, and a poorly supported one at that."This is a satire piece, but I find it strangely believable. In fact, I had to do a little research to make sure the Loon was actually a satire paper and not a real one ( Read more... )

I'm pretty certain that part of it is due to the sheer arrogance of scientists (and I'm saying that as someone with a PhD in Theoretical Physics). Scientists don't communicate well what they do, and if they're questioned, they respond with disdain and insults (not all of them do this, of course, but enough that the impression forms). As a result, science comes over as elitist, incomprehensible and superior. Not so totally different from an old-style Catholic priesthood.

Most academic studies seem to become Priesthoods. The same is true of Literary Analysis, which has it's own canon and everythign ;)

I guess Literary Analysis can't destroy the world if it goes wrong, though. :D

"Maybe some people don't like having electricity or having cars instead of horses?"

I've never felt the back-to-nature urge myself. Nature and I don't really get along.

I think people think much to black and white. As for the article, whoever those guys are they are in fact so in denial that they have to come up with this drivel? I mean honestly ( ... )

oh and as for gravity, there isn't a solid conclusive theory. It is something that for the most part is observed ( ... )

Interesting bit on the gravity-propulsion.

This article is a satire, btw, not a fact. The Loon is a satire paper, like the Onion. But what is said is that we are so close to this being true that there are a lot of us who are fooled (I was fooled at first, unitl I researched the article for my post).
