When I saw the monkey photo, it was easy to picture depressed!Buffy in this situation. This is just the sort of thing that would happen to her, poor dear.

Great little story! Even as a howler monkey, Buffy clearly knew what (or who) she wanted :-) And of course Spike was not *entirely* selfless when he spent his wish on Buffy.

I figured that monkey!Buffy would have a few less inhibitions, or at least care a lot less about what the Scoobies might think. She'd be more tuned in to the "animal magnetism" side of things.

Spike wasn't thinking very strategically, and he can be pretty single-minded when the subject is Buffy. Even if he did get the chip out, it probably wouldn't be too satisfying if his (surprisingly affectionate) girlfriend was so changed.

Also, howler monkeys look quite cute - unlike long-tailed macaques, which are horrid.

Some primates are adorable, and some are not. I can think of a few politicians on the not adorable end of the scale, for instance.
