A while ago a friend and former coworker of mine wanted me to write him a letter of recommendation for JET (turned out he didn't get in, but did a small time teaching English with some other firm) and so I surfed around some of the big places where they hang out, to see what sorts of things were valued, if they had any suggestions for good stuff to write, etc.
Anyhow, I got sidetracked by some hilarious threads about the concept of "my Japan," as in "don't you be spoiling it, you n00b!!" I'm sure you know WAY more about that than I do by this point (as evidenced by this post) but if not, it's a good hilarious search term, along with "tea and onsens.". Those sites had LOTS of snark for several of the categories above... :)
AS a tourist (of the bona fide, JR-pass-holding sort) I will admit it is occasionally amusing to encounter some of the above species in Starbucks.
Hoping to take a neighbor to Hiroshima possibly this fall, if things work out. We shall see...
