“My Revolutions” starts with Michael Frame, an average man waiting for his birthday party with a wife and his step daughter. However, Mike Frame leaves before the party even begins and starts on a journey to France and through his past. The novel switches timelines effortlessly, lulling the reader into a different perspective without any notice and by the end of the digression you realize you started somewhere completely different. Kunzru switches from the present to the 60’s to a few weeks before the present and many other times. It might be hard to follow if you’re not used to stream of consciousness, but it’s an excellent story of terrorist groups in England during the Vietnam War and is extremely well written.
The bombings and terrorist acts are somewhat taken from the Angry Brigade, a group that’s usually tossed to the side and forgotten about, as well as England as a whole when it comes to the Vietnam War. It’s an entirely new perspective of the time, looking into politics and social aspects of hippies and revolutionaries from a place not well known for these acts during the time.
I absolutely love this book. I recommend reading it - it’s easy to read, the story is suspenseful and intriguing and really makes you think about government and politics and wonder if it’s all worth it and whether anyone can really change things.
