Happy gen week!!! GEN!!! I LOVE IT! A cool thing about gen in this fandom is how, emotionally-speaking, it's not that far from slash -- the acute emotional connections and ~feelings between the characters lend themselves beautifully to the creation of powerful fic that doesn't need a sexual component to heighten the intensity of the pre-existing

I wrote a really long meta on the "porn" of gen a long time ago, and ever since it's been forefront in my mind! Especially given my own h/c proclivities.
Hope you like these!

I am so interested in it too! That is what makes SPN so special *beams*
(granted, I have absolutely zero experience in any other fandom... but I can just TELL how special this one is!)

But I'm fascinated to know there is gen fic that's emotionally "kinky," as you describe. I can't wait to read these, thank you!!

I read and write both gen and slash, and I can honestly say that most times the emotional complexities and intense relationships in gen surpass those in slash, since slash often uses sex to hammer-home emotion -- and while it's a very effective tool, I do think that at times it can be an easy way out, an easy way to show connection. Keep in mind, though, that I don't read slash for the porn -- it usually doesn't turn me on (although of course there are special cases *g*) -- I read slash for the emotional component (often h/c).
Try these newly-posted stories, and if they don't work for you, let me know some of your favorite slash stories and I will tailor-make you a gen rec list that includes some old ones. I would really love to do that! Gen can be so amazing and satisfying and I want everyone to know!

For myself, I don't necessarily read slash for the porn. Porn works too, fwiw, just differently - I don't usually appreciate being dropped in the middle of a pwp, for instance, but I really like being led to it. I read slash, particularly SPN slash, for that "just you 'n me, kid" sense I get from some of it, that feeling that some of the bonds in this fandom are near-unbreakable. Whether that's "love, family, whatever" or "profound bond" or something involving an OC, I look for equal partnership and bonding. I've a huge competence kink, too, that rules out some of the h/c I've read (although I do keep trying with h/c because I love it when it hits the right notes for me).
I like paxlux's fic a great deal, both gen and slash. I like long, plotty, emotional stories that aren't so much ( ... )
