(Cecil's at it again :( Takagi is quite happily minding his own business, walking down the stairs from Latimir when he feels himself trip. Stairs, by the way, are a very dangerous place in which to not be fully aware of your surroundings. Balance is lost and Takagi falls particularly ungracefully - he is falling, you know - and his communicator falls out of his pocket, bouncing a few times and the movement causes the object to turn on with a small click as Takagi also reaches the bottom of the stairs.
It wasn't exactly a short fall, and hey, whatever it was that made him fall was good at it, and the only sound that could be heard before silence and the timing out of the communicator, was a rather brief and particularly sickening crunch.)
