(And now that I've fixed my massive HTML fail...)
Hi, I'm Loree, and I don't know Dave either. But his place sounds like what my place would be if my household owned land and could stand to live outside the city.
I'm not a crafty type, and my best cooking isn't in easily-shippable formats, so I've been at a loss to come up with what to donate. And then an earlier post hit on it -- why not auction off a charity donation and help people here and far away at the same time? There are four auctions included in my donation, each for
Heifer International, a worldwide charity that helps build sustainable communities with a mission to end world hunger.
Auction #1 is for a donation in the name of your choice of
a flock of ducks (value USD $20). Minimum bid starts at USD $5.
Auction #2 is for a donation in the name of your choice of
a hive of honeybees (value USD $30). Minimum bid starts at USD $6.
Auction #3 is for a donation in the name of your choice of
a trio of rabbits (value USD $60). Minimum bid starts at USD $15.
Special vegan-friendly Auction #4 is for a donation in the name of your choice of
seedling trees (value USD $60). Minimum bid starts at USD $15.
Whatever the bids may be, Heifer International gets a minimum of $170 from me. But if the winning bidder of any auction exceeds the established value, I will match any overage (up to USD $150) in livestock or tree donations. So for example, if the top bid for $20 of ducks is $30, Dave gets $30 from the bidder, and HI gets an extra $10 out of my pocket. Winning over-bidders also have the option to
choose the extras I buy on their behalf.
This might be a little more complicated than the usual auction, so I will create five comment threads to this post -- four for bidding, one for questions. Please bid as a new comment to the previous bid in the appropriate thread.
All auctions end at the witching hour -- midnight Pacific time on the evening of Saturday, October 31, 2009.
