guerrilla hospitality

I've been selected for a team of artists/activists going to the General Assembly this year to be a supportive queer presence!

As you may or may not know (or might assume), the Presbyterian church has been in the midst of a controversy about "gay/lesbian" ordination for a while now. There was a great document released two years ago (known as the Peace, Unity, Purity report) that basically said we should continue to discern on a case-by-case basis, but then a month or so ago, the GA Permanent Judicial Commission ruled that the one paragraph about sexual behavior was the only part of the whole constitution and scriptures that absolutely required compliance, whereas everything else is allowed room for interpretation.

So. A bunch of us are going to GA this year, under the premise that we're tired of begging to be "allowed in." This is our church, and we're going to start acting like it. From the flyer: "Through positive, life-giving direct action, New Church (R)evolution will be the church we want to see, as we invite the PCUSA to have the courage to join us in living into freedom and justice."

I am super excited. I think it is probably the most productive thing I could do this summer, and it's only about 2 weeks.

The brainstorming must start. There are many things I want to see... what do you want church to be?

(As a side note, we will be fundraising like mad. If any of you want to contribute any money at all, let me know!)
