I didn't make them but they are handmade, yes.

Someone worked for very very low wages, I'm sad to say.

Wages are relative to the cost of living; dollar to dollar comparisons don't even make sense within the US. For instance, think about what kind of shelter $100,000 can buy you in Manhattan vs. rural Alabama. So the person who made the pillow might actually be making a decent living, even if the wages seem low to you. Or they might not be, but I just mean to say: Don't beat yourself up over it.
