My Neighbor Totoro

Just watched another Miyazaki masterpiece last night :) It was super cute! I must say I wasn't expecting Totoro to be so....scary? Although one of my favorite scenes was when the girls were waiting at the bus stop to give their dad his umbrella and Totoro shows up with a leaf on his head and they all just stand there for a moment, side by side. I love Totoro. One of my favourite Miyazaki films. Helen and I even named our car after him. (We have one of these little Italian compacts, we delude ourselves that it looks a little Totoro-ish?).

I did enjoy Ponyo, although I guess I see what you mean. I loved Riza, the protagonist's mum, and her crazy driving and grumpiness.

Hehe I thoroughly enjoyed Totoro :) I'm glad your car is named after him, he's adorable!

The mom in Ponyo is awesome but she's such a grumpy realist that I found it hard to believe she was okay with being trapped in a bubble until her son brought Ponyo back to her parents? But don't get me wrong, I still liked Ponyo it's just my least favorite of the Miyazaki films...I think Princess Mononoke is my favorite!

Aww, I loved Ponyo, for exactly that reason! I thought it was fantastic how everybody was just so into the magic stuff, even though it was totally bizarre. I love Miyazaki in general, too, though I haven't seen all of them--and actually I haven't seen Totoro, though it's on my endless list of things I want to watch sometime! I think my favorite of the few I've seen is Spirited Away.

Spirited Away is AMAZING! I cry every time when Chihiro cries over Haku when he gets poisoned...EVERY TIME! SOOO moving and a lovely, lovely scene. The whole movie is just stunning.

I think Princess Mononoke is my fav...it's the first Miyazaki movie I ever saw and it literally blew...my...mind!

Ditto on that scene with Haku, I always cry! And Princess Mononoke was the first one I ever saw as well, one of the first bits of anime I understood to be anime when I saw it. If that makes any sense. Though I haven't seen it since it came out, whereas I have Spirited Away on dvd--I think that's why it's my fav. I watch it often.
