OBJECTION!

OH HAI GUYZ I FINALLY WROTE SOMETHING ABOUT PHEONIX WRIGHT. Okay, it's tiny, but allow me my baby steps. I will actually finish a full-length PW fic someday (uh it's like halfway done), but today is not that day.

Every day for the past week, Phoenix Wright has spent his entire lunch hour in front of Miles Edgeworth's office, pacing the hall. Once or twice his hand has touched the doorknob and then left it again. But today. Today will be different! Today, he will take that doorknob, and he will open it... and walk in...

...Or maybe he won't.

"Be brave, Wright!" says the little Mia in his head, who continues to advise him at times like this. "He who hesitates is lost!"

"But Mia!" he responds, also in his head, because he is not quite crazy enough to say it out loud. "I... I don't know what to do!"

Mia shakes her head. "That's not true!" she says. "You know exactly what to do! Don't think I don't know you've been rehearsing this for years! Now get in there and give it all you've got!"

"Yes, ma'am!" She's right. It's now or never.

He puts his hand on the doorknob. Then he turns the knob. The door opens. Edgeworth... Miles... is sitting at his desk, reading a sheaf of paper. He looks up at the doorway.

Phoenix reminds himself again to be brave.

"Hey, Edgeworth," he says. Okay. So far, so good. If he can keep up this level of discourse, he'll be doing better than he expected.

"Wright." Edgeworth puts down the papers. "What is it?"

Pheonix takes a deep breath.

"Would you. Would you like to go for some coffee with me?"

It could be his imagination, but does Edgeworth look a little confused? "I've already-"

"Yeah," and Pheonix decides to press for all he's worth, "Well, it's not actually so much about the coffee. It's really more about the you and me." The instant this line leaves his mouth, he knows it was a stupid thing to say.

But Edgeworth doesn't smirk. In fact, he appears to have been caught completely off guard.

"Oh," he says, as though this is an entirely new concept to him, and Pheonix crosses his fingers. "Well. I..." And he smiles, a little bit awkwardly. "All right. I'll get my coat."

"Good," says Pheonix, "Okay," and he knows he's grinning like an idiot, but he could care less, because he's going for coffee with Miles Edgworth and he can feel his inner Mia patting him proudly on the back.
