No Rest For the Wicked

Everyone should read this webcomic. I did! It is awesomely awesome. The author really knows her stuff when it comes to fairy tales, and the art is charmingly gothic in a totally unpretentious way. Also it has crazy people.

November enjoys watching other people sleep in a fashion that borders on the voyeuristic. Unfortunately, neither of her companions are particularly obliging on this point.

In particular, Red. Axe in hand, she haunts the woods at night, stalking through the darkness for fear of dreaming.

Still, those who can sleep must do so. November gradually finds that Red is not so frightning when she puts away her axe and huddles in her cloak for warmth rather than for any mystique it embues her with.

She sings to Red at night sometimes, in a voice that is trained but still not lovely. She tells her mundane stories of her family life. Sometimes, she even reaches out - very tentatively - and strokes Red's hair.

What November doesn't know is that none of this makes any difference. But if she knew, she would stop, and so Red pretends to fall asleep and spends the night with November.
