Weee! It's tutorial time
featuring Yurika Dōjima from Witch Hunter Robin

Learn to go from this:
to this:

Tutorial was made in Photoshop CS2 - so, I'm not too sure if it's translatable to other graphics programs... gomen.

Witch Hunter Robin Icon Tutorial Step 1: Ok, so first off do all the necessary steps to prep your base. I made mine from a screencap that I took. Crop and sharpen the base to your liking. This is what mine looked like:

Step 2: Create a new selective color layer (layer> New Adjustment Layer> Selective color) and use the following settings:
Reds
Cyan -60
Yellow +100

Neutrals
Cyan -5
Yellow -10

Step 3: Create a new Hue/Saturation layer (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue/Saturation) and change the saturation to +10

Step 4: Create a new layer and fill with #040427 and change the layer to exclusion. Leave the opacity at 100%

Step 5: Create a new layer and paste this gradient:
change the layer to overlay. I know that it doesn't look like much right now - but it will get better!

Step 6: Take this light texture:
made by awmp and set the layer to screen 100% Starting to look a little better now.

Step 7: Take this second light texture:
made by myrasis and set it to screen.

Step 8: Create a second selective color layer and input these settings:
Reds:
Yellow -40

Yellows:
Cyan -100
Yellow +20

Cyans:
Cyan +100
Yellow -100

Blues:
Cyan +100

Whites:
Cyan -100
Magenta -20
Yellows +63

Step 9: Duplicate the base and drag to the very top of the layers pallete and set the layer to soft light, keeping the opacity at 100%

You could choose to end the tutorial here - but I added a text brush, available over on brush_fanatic and a 2px border in #fd6a81. And you should have something that looks like this:

Please remember that this is a just a tutorial, so make sure that you experiment with all the steps. And also, show me your creations! I'd love to see what you guys come up with using this tutorial!
