Rape or Rape-Rape?

The CBS correspondent "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault"...

So, is that rape? If so, why doesn't the media use that word?

I don't know either, reading about the story it seems awful. But...those kinds of euphemisms always set off red-flags for me, without the context. I think they should just say rape too. My concern is, if they're not saying that, because that didn't happen then...it's a weasel word, basically.

there was ONE report out there by someone at her network saying "but it wasn't rape." But I get the feeling it was sort of a ... I don't know, like to actually say she was raped would somehow tarnish her, rather than the people doing the raping.

Words are much more important that people think.

I know right?! What really pisses me off is stories like "Man has sex with 9 year old" and the phrase is repeated in the article--nowhere does it say "rape!" Oh so they had sex?? Sounds consensual doesn't it?? But HOW CAN THAT BE??? GRR!! CALL IT WHAT IT IS YOU MISOGYNISTIC SONS OF BITCHES!!
