Today, I watched the movie Thirteen. I must say that it is a very disturbing movie. At thirteen, I was still playing with my Barbies. Kids today (yes, kids, at thirteen, they are still kids according to me) are having sex, stealing, doing drugs. Yes, I'm aware that not all teens are like that. My proof is here on the internet. I'm so glad I met ( Read more... )

ug i know what you're saying about 13 year olds. i was 13 only 4 years ago and they seem so different now. i've heard some of them talk about sex and stuff but it's more the way they handle themselves. they have cell phones and $500 bags. i think it's bad enough that people my age have all that but to see young kids are obviously aren't paying for it themselves, just using their parents money... it's really sad.

and yeah you'll probably be disturbed by girl, interrupted :|

Girl, Interrupted isn't really extremely disturbing. But maybe that's because I'm not so easily disturbed. :-P hehe.

I enjoyed the book more than the movie, personally.

It's always disturbing when I see kids a lot younger (like 4-5 years) than me acting as if they were more "advanced" than I am. For example, the way they can dress. It's so, well, sexually explicit for the lack of a better word. When I was thirteen, I was still the biggest tomboy you have ever seen, who refused to come near a dress even if she was offered all the money in the world. it looks like they want to grow up so fast that they forget how to be kids and never live that part of their lives, a part that is as important as the others to become a good adult.

I'm 17. I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't have sex. Shouldn't that be normal? I'm scared that soon, it won't be the case.

I'm really affraid that soon, it won't be normal. Don't worry though, they'll always be people who don't fit, whatever the situation is.
I wasn't doing any of those things at 17 either. In fact, I'm barely doing them now!

My cousin just turned 13 recently. She got a belly-button piercing last year, she got a cell phone when she was 10, she's been wearing make-up for years, same for raunchy clothes and high-heeled shoes (she's quite tall, and my aunt told me that she has to buy her high-heeled shoes because "they don't make flat shoes in her size". Except that my feet were at that time 4 sizes bigger than my cousin's and I almost always wear flat shoes ( ... )
