Although most know him now as God's Voice, his tasks are innumerable. And first and foremost, he was and is a scribe. Despite claiming he doesn't know everything, he is responsible for recording each and every event that transpires. Although there are places where he may not act, he bears witness to Will's punishment. For now he simply stands, inscrutable.

Once Will is crucified, he watches, silent and invisible himself. Only when Will cries for help with his prayers does he move forward, placing two fingers upon Will's brow in blessing, before shifting to remove the nails and catching Will as he topples forward. Ever so gently, he cradles Will, while begging for permission to heal him. While he waits, he forms Metatron's Cube from his soul as a ward to keep Flagg away.

Will is far beyond being able to speak normally. He feels safe and protected the minute Metatron comes forward, but it doesn't stop his pain. He wails when Metatron pulls out the nails, and then again as he settles into Metatron's arms. There's just no painless way to be held when the flesh has been ripped off your back all the way to your bones, no matter how gentle Metatron is being. Helplessly, Will vomits stringy mucous all over Metatron's arm. Then he starts shaking convulsively, making his teeth chatter.

"T-t-t-t-take m-m-e s-s-someplace s-s-s-s-s-o I-I-I c-c-c-can d-d-d-die." The effort of speaking causes him to gray out for a second. With so much damage to his ribs and lungs, it's not easy for him to get enough air. He doesn't actually want to die, he's just miserable and in pain right now.

Metatron isn't bothered in the least by the vomit. Humans tend to come across as bags of fluid anyhow, swarming with germs. He's far more concerned about the immense pain Will is in, since he shouldn't be alive at this point.

He lowers his head. "A moment, just one moment more, sweet Will."

He's received the verdict. He can even see the reasoning behind it. Doesn't make it easier. If he heals Will, he has to release the glyph protecting him from Flagg. It's not even a choice. Not that angels are afforded much anyhow. So he drops his Cube, which shimmers out of existence, and kisses Will's brow. Immediately, all tissue damage is repaired, and Will is whole again. Metatron remains carrying Will, though. Perhaps he's reluctant to let him go.

Will could safely say that he's never been more miserable in his entire life, but the relief is overwhelming after Metatron heals him. What had almost been worse than the pain was the terrible cold feeling of being exposed, and feeling the wind moving over his spine. He rolls to clutch at Metatron gratefully.

"Thank you, thank you so much. That's the second time you've done that. I don't know why. I mean, I know it wasn't because of that stupid song, but god. I mean... sorry, didn't mean to take His name in vain. It was like I wasn't even there, they just talked about me like I wasn't even there. He treats me like a dog." He's referring to Jack. "I don't care if he is my friend, I have got to stop doing him favors."
