Doctor appointment x2 today. I'll recap. Forgive me if you consider this overshare. Feel free to stop reading now. I won't be offended

You might, when you go back to the GYN, ask about the possibility of P.C.O.S. (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) as a diagnosis for some of the issues. I have the heavy, irregular periods, very imbalanced hormones (especially between my thyroid/hypothalamus), increased testosterone, ridiculously embarrassing amounts of inconvenient body hair, as well as weight issues, and they're all part of the PCOS. Not that they can CURE it any, but it's a good heads up so you know to watch for any of the other issues it can cause. (Diabetes, fertility isses etc, blah de blah.)
Going to the doctor = good. Finding out what is causing some of the problems = good. I hope you get all straightened out and feel much better really soon!
Just FYI, we do have a family history of the heavy periods. Our paternal grandmother used to have very similar issues to you; I thought it may or may not be useful info. Keep us posted, and here's hoping that things get all ironed out for you. *hugs*
