So there's a difference between "religion" and "religious" and "spirituality" and "spiritual"... which is what I think your friend was trying to get at (although badly, at least in that example). He was trying to describe what spiritual christianity is, and I think you were interpreting it as religious christianity (go to church every week, follow these rules, etc). Most of the point of spiritual christianity is that god does care about people in an individual sense, and that he does have an individual personal relationship with them. If you want me to elaborate more on that, shoot me an email, because it can get kind of long (simple-complicated, but long)

You've always struck me as a pretty spiritual person, and I guess by that I mean in-tune-with-herself, sort of. =D Religions are a fascinating subject to study, I agree, and arabic culture is cool (one day I will learn the language...!)

Hmmm. That's true- I guess it's more organized religion that puts me off. I think you're right that that's probably what he was getting at as well, I didn't think of that distinction. Spirituality is more interesting and less... intimidating, I guess? Maybe it's the all-encompassing nature of organized religion and how deeply personal it is (although spirituality is as well but on sometimes a more low-key level) that throws me off.

I come across as spiritual? Huh. That's interesting, really. :D Religions are neat to study, and I prefer them in the academic sense (my parents are like that too, which is why we weren't raised very religious). Haha, I don't really know all that much about Arabic culture though, I only studied it for a summer a few years ago, and I'm on more of an Asian kick now. It definitely is fascinating though, it's so different and very rich in culture and history. Just the modern culture is so incredibly tangled...

religions are just another means to control the population. if you go back to the ancient sumerian texts and astrology/astronomy, you'll find that all the religions are just copies and renewed versions of those ancient sun god religions.

i love talking to religious people, but i don't understand the mentality of it...i mean, how do they KNOW?

still, i think the myths and legends had to start from something, but we will never know unless the Reptilians decide to tell us.

I was raised in a pray-before-every-meal, go-to-church-every-Sunday Christian home. The churches my parents went to always destroyed themselves from the inside (by many selfish, bigoted people). I started asking real questions around jr high age, and no one could or would help me answer them, so I set out on my own. I still follow my parents' Christian traditions when at home, but they know I don't have a church and I'm not a strong Christian. If they knew that I haven't been able to call myself Christian for years, my entire extended family would flip ( ... )
