Summary: Tim never did react to fear toxin the way everyone else did.

Dick meant to talk to Tim about maybe moving to a different name, letting the littlest be Robin while Tim matured into a different name, like Dick had done. He just knew Tim would take it badly, so he kept putting it off, and putting it off, and then he went to finally talk to Tim and Damian came in at just the wrong moment. And now Dick is kicking himself for not biting the bullet sooner, because now even if he tries talking to Tim, Tim will just think he is being pacified. Yeah, Dick really stepped in it.

Yeah, Tim is going to get lots of cuddles out of this. Dick knows he messed up, big time, and will do his best to cuddle the apology into Tim. Then there's all the snuggles you reviewers send! (Though admittedly, those confuse Tim even more. Why are these strangers snuggling me?!)

I realized different people have different reactions to fear: some flip out an run screaming(flight), some get scary aggressive(fight), some find a nice corner to cringe in(rabbit response). Tim's reaction is based of a combination of his fear being a scenario and his low self esteem. Basically, toxin says "Haha, you have been replaced! You are useless!" and he goes "yeah, and? I was kind of expecting that. Not really news." Heartbreaking, but it leaves him able to function.

Ow. *cuddles Tim and eyes Dick* Bad enough to stick Damian in a costume before talking to Tim, but to do it when he knew it was Tim's biggest fear? *ties Dick up and let's Tim use him as target practice....*

Oh, come now, you know Tim wouldn't actually do anything to Dick. He'd be too busy protesting that it was all his own fault. In Dick's defense, he hadn't intended for Damian to show up just then. Of course, this is partially because he was being oblivious to Damian taking every shot he can at Tim. *pets Tim* Yeah, Dick didn't act with malicious intent, but he couldn't have made that scene go much worse even if he had been.

Mm-hm, Tim would be. He loves Dick, even when Dick is being bad at interpersonal relations. But hey, Dick grew up with Batman. You know he had to have picked up some bad habits. Interpersonal obliviousness was unfortunately one of them.

Oh ouch, wonderful, but ouch. That's an excellent way for Tim to react to fear toxin. I can see him not getting as out of control as many of the others do. I know that the replacement hurt him badly, far worse than it seems many of the Bats understand. I think Jason might get it, but that's a whole different story. This was excellent. Great job.

Thanks! I'm glad you like Tim's reactions. I got the feeling that being replaced in cannon hurt Tim a great deal, but that he didn't want to admit it. And Bats are pretty well known for bad interpersonal skills. Jason probably would get it, but since Tim was the one who replaced him, that conversation might be a tad awkward.

*sighs* Poor Tim, to be confronted with his worst fear in RL and after Dick knew what it was. Dick really should have thought about this better and talked to Tim first.

Yeah, Dick did not do this right at all. He totally deserves to get smacked with a dead cod. Possibly a smelly one. Dick just never really struck me as the planning Robin.

While he did not appear in this fic, Alfred is undoubtedly making it better post-fic behind the scenes. Alfred is probably upstairs giving Tim blueberry scones and preparing a blistering scolding for Dick. Dick will be getting subtle signs of disapproval for the foreseeable future. Breakfast will feature coffee a bit colder than Dick likes it, slightly soggy toast, and an omelet with something Alfred "forgot" Dick doesn't like, served with a perfectly bland look that dares Dick to say a word. Tim will get all his favorites.
