First official commiseration post

Well, the response so far has been really fabulous. Already 25 members and we just opened for business late last night! Welcome again to all.

Please don't be afraid to post to your heart's content. The more the better.

To kick us off, I'm opening the floor for discussion on a topic that's already been discussed to death. In case some of you aren't aware (and if you aren't I envy you), Katee Sackhoff - who completely rocks my socks, don't get me wrong - said at a recent convention that Kara loves Sam more than Lee.

[I said] the other night at the dinner table that I actually think that Kara loves Sam more than she loves Lee. I think that it’s a very confusing thing. She’s known Lee forever, they’ve been friends forever, and I think she’s confusing that for what real adult companionship and love is. So I really think that she, truly as an adult, is in love with Sam. And that they are very similar.

Yes, you read right. If you need proof, check out Katee at Vulkon for the video.

Discuss! Whine! Bitch! Etc, etc. Coherent thoughts aren't required.

To make you feel a bit better, though, I need to point out Katee's heartrending comments on Maelstrom and her scene with Lee:

These were like really emotional scenes where I had to not really play the obvious choice. Because like the scene when she’s sitting under the plane with Lee…all she wants to do is tell him that she loves him, and cry, and like that was such an easy choice to play that scene. And the director came up and was like that’s a great scene, Katee, but he’s like, just stare at that dot. Just stare at the dot and see what happens. And it was such a powerful choice because it was this woman going out, she knows she’s going to die, she knew at that point she was going to die, and she wanted his (Lee’s) life to be easier when she was gone. And you can see it, the whole time she’s just like helping him move on and trying to get him to move on and help him think everything’s okay. And it’s such a powerful scene, I thought, that it was challenging, you know I wish I could do stuff like that every week ‘cause I had so much fun. (transcriptions thanks to the awesome

ETA: I've been looking through Katee interviews to find some of her comments, and I'll add more as I find them. Thanks to KateeSackhoff-fans.com for the interviews!

"It’s interesting about Apollo and Starbuck. I do believe that she’s in love with him, that he’s her best friend, the only one who understands her. He is her last real thing that reminds her of Zak. I think it’s very fitting for her to love the brother of the man she loved who died. I don’t know if she’s going to express those feelings. But I say that to myself: “You’re in love with this guy, now play the scene.” - About.com Interview

Why do they keep pulling away from each other when it's obvious they really care about each other?

KS:  I think because it is obvious. You know, their world is so chaotic and it's hard to hold onto something that you know is so real and tangible when it could be gone tomorrow. It's almost easier to walk away from it and to have never felt that true love and passion for someone because it gives you something to fight for, and it gives you a reason to wanna live, and as a fighter pilot, you can't have that. You have to be willing to sacrifice everything, including your life. And I think, when you love someone so unconditionally and you know that, it's really hard to go out there and fight the good fight. - E!Online Interview, March 2006

"I think it's the way (Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace) acts toward people. I think, 'Will you just stop kidding around and tell him (Lee "Apollo" Adama, played by Jamie Barber) that you love him?' " - Scripps Howard News Service, January, 2006

"She realizes that it doesn't matter if she loves Apollo (Jamie Bamber) or how much she loves him, she's not right for him, and she lets him go without saying anything." - Starburst Special #74

"Jamie, director Michael Rymer, and I got talking a lot about the backstory of  Apollo and Starbuck...What we figured out is that she met Zach first, but what is to say she didn't meet Lee second and wished she had met him first? What do you do? Break up with one brother to go out with the other? There's a lot of guilt on her part because she might have been struggling to leave Zach before he died and planned to tell Lee how she felt about him.

"He's her best friend, her brother, her comrade...he's everything to her and he gets her. That is what is interesting about their relationship."  - Dreamwatch, September 2003

"When I read the flashback scene, I cried. Because it was something that this character would do, and it's something I'm sure a lot of people have done. It goes to show how much she loves Apollo, but how terrified she is of that." - Official BSG Magazine #6

And I thought these comment were interesting in light of her recent comments but aren't really pro-K/L:

IGN TV: What is your take on Lee and Kara, because it is an interesting dynamic in that sometimes there is a major vibe there and sometimes they seem more like siblings.

Sackhoff: You know, I don't think anyone knows, and it is actually kind of annoying, because you sit there and think, "What is going on?" You have no idea what is going on, and you get frustrated because it's like one writer will go this way and another writer will go that way. I guarantee you there is a general consensus and they have sat down and talked about it. But it seems like you are being pulled in two completely different directions, and it is like when are these characters going to make up their mind and go one way or the other, because you can't do this for seven years, because the fans are going go, "Enough already!"  - IGN TV, October 2006

"There's things about this character that I'm still figuring out every day, which I think is what makes it more fun. I think, for myself and for the writers, you take it day by day. You don't know everything about this character, and the audience doesn't [either]. So I still don't know every reason why she does things. I know why she's doing it now, but it could be completely different tomorrow." -  Official BSG Magazine #6
