the role of a man

I was reading my LJ friends' page yesterday, and I came across the most amazing thread at FARKdotcom. [[http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=3052943]] Apparently, this thread was commenting on an article in the Wall Stree Journal about men ( Read more... )

I know what you mean. I love to play with little kids and right now I am working with them in school. I walk the kindergarten kids out each afternoon and they love to grab hold of your hand and pull you along. What am I supposed to be cold and refuse to hold the hand of a little kid who desires the contact? That is not how I was raised. It is disappointing the way people view men often times in our culture.

That's insane! You know how crazy big my family is (32 first cousins). We always had people around male and female adults playing with us and rough housing. No one ever (that I know of) thought anything of it. Ben's almost always got Mary in his arms and he's a great father, but yesterday in the park I was very careful when a little girl (there with her parents and baby sister) came over to play with us. She was showing off the way little kids do (i.e. look at me go down the slide) but I was concerned that her parents would be uncomfortable with us even talking to their child. They weren't and they seemed pretty amused by her being so social, but it made me realize that I worry about people thinking I'm a pedophile. I am your average twenty something, married, white, middle class (okay maybe lower middle class...haha) female and even I worry about public perception of an adult that interacts with children. I don't think it's such a males only concern, but I do think it is far more intense for men. Okay, I'm being paged by a loud baby ( ... )

I think women are naturally maternal and want to protect their children whenever there are strangers around. I honestly don't think that women have to worry about being percieved as child molesters for the simple fact that women are percieved as being motherly when they interact with their kids.

On a different note: What happened to your LJ? I swear there used to be updates in your profile, but they are all gone. Did you delete them all? Did you jump the LJ ship and go to WhoreMySpace?

Oh yeah, a magical fairy told me it is your birthday soon. Let me know if you want to get together for coffee sometime. Bring Ben and your offspring. The more the merrier! Wheee!~~Nick

Maybe, but I still feel weird about it.

Yeah, I'm over on blogger now. I know, I know, but I like it there.

Coffee would be great, but maybe you can come over to my brand new house! Well, not brand new, but new to me. We made an offer on a house and it was accepted so we should have it in a few weeks! HOOORAAAY!

Well now.

I left a message on your celly, and I also emailed you. Are you busy? I was hoping we could get together sometime just to catch up. I bought you a nice, modest house-warming gift I hope you will enjoy.

Where are you? Were you kidnapped?
