My side of the family lives up in Ventura. Most have been kicked out of their houses, and at least one set has their house in an area that has been devastated. Last they were able to check (no one is allowed up there now) the house was still standing, but the fire had reached within two houses, everything gone beyond that point, and meanwhile the ( Read more... )

What an incredible, colorful and pretty devastating history. The situation they are all in is as well. :( I can't imagine.

Wow, your mom was a resilient and determined kid. Those stories are quite amazing!

I have so many friends (and relatives) in Los Angeles, and now there are fires starting in San Diego County where I lived until four months ago. This is really serious stuff. At least the firefighters aren't out there in 100 degrees, as has often been true in the past.

Yeah, my daughter down there just sent photos through the kitchen window of a huge, ominous cloud rising above the nearby ridge.

Yeah, though it's hot enough.
