Hummers and Potters

Why is it (she grumped) that one can be standing at the sink washing dishes and look out to see all kinds of hummers being enchanting around the feeder, and occasionally the yellow and black bird stoking up, but as SOON as one races upstairs for the cell phone cam, they all vanish for hours

I can think of two explanations:

1. Birds are telepathic as well as being camera-shy. Or

2. While free food is nice, birds are too smart to be photographed without you signing a contract promising them residuals.

The question is, have you seen small pieces of paper with strange, vaguely legalistic scratchings on them anywhere around the bird feeder?

Heh! Alas, there isn't much around the bird feeder, as the roof rats eat pretty much everything except the roses. (They weren't so bad before the coyotes ate all the neighbors' cats, who had kept the rat population down.)
