Still meditating some questions that came up in the writing openings discussion the other day, but today over lunch I read the last episode of Serial Box's Whitehall, which I hope will open into a second season
( Read more... )
I wish they would release the paperbacks for S1 already. I'm mostly interested in Tremontaine, but I have my eyes on Max Gladstone's projects as well, since I love his Craft Sequence.
I tried Serial Box. I never got the notification of when the next chapter was ready. I don't have WiFi at home, so downloading a book in pieces is a pain in the butt. This format does not work for me.
The only serials which I have read successfully (=received notifications when chapters were available) were Seanan McGuire's two Indexing serials. They were Kindle serials, so their notification worked better, and I finally figured out I could download to my computer and then transfer via USB cable to the Kindle. But it was still a pain in the butt doing it each chapter.
Yeah--Serial Box has last week underwent serious redesign, and they now have an app. I sometimes got notified, sometimes didn't, had to reregister a couple times. It was kind of a pain, but I was determined to stick it through as I loved the serial. But I am not really an episode person--I like the entire book in hand.
I'm delighted you liked it, Sherwood--it was so much fun to write. A period about which I knew very little (O, the research) and what was, for me, a very new sort of writing experience. The model was a "season" of TV, and we wanted each episode to contain a full story, even if there were threads that didn't get resolved until the next episode (or the one after).
I am now waiting to find out if we'll get a second season. It would be so much fun.
