Once in a while I do these when it's hot, and they cause me to look back down the years. And if the questions make me laugh.

1. Did you know your spouse? No. He would be just starting university at the then-new U at Riverside.

2. Did you car pool to school? I walked the three miles to school, usually at five a.m. so I could get in writing time ( Read more... )

Ha. I went to school before girls could wear pants of any kind. One hot spring day (think 90's) we decided to wear Bermuda skirts, since shorts were formally outlawed. Little short fluffy skirts and knee socks. But you can look good in anything at that age. It outraged the faculty and we all got sent home to change.

Yup. I graduated in the last class forced to wear skirts, and endure skirt checks. I was quite disgusted that the next fall, the dress code was lifted. And meanwhile I was starting college with a closet full of crappy dresses acto the old code, which I refused to wear. So I started wearing my brother's castoff jeans instead, until I could make myself some hippie skirts, or garner some of my younger sister's mini skirts.

Thats so great that you got involved with the mythopoeic society. I guess D&D was sort of like that for me--sort of. Mainly, I just liked to do things with my friends.

Art class was great because you could meet people across ages (kids in higher or lower grades) and across success tracks (whether you were taking high-powered classes or more middling ones) (plus, it was art!)

Your school sounds a whole lot less regimented than mine. (But it was probably not stuck in fifties conformity mode, nor nearly as huge and overcrowded.)

It was big, but maybe not as big as yours (360-some kids per year), and it was definitely more relaxed than yours was.

We had graduating classes of near a thousand each semester--too many for June grads.

Started to think about doing this, but by Q 5, so many ugly memories were stirring, I pulled away like I'd touched a hot stove. High school was hands down the worst time of my life.

Ugh. Yes, these things are only worth doing if they are fun, or cause a few laughs. (And maybe winces, yes, but not horrible memories.)

I never heard of a class having a name. I'm curious, is it a fifties thing or a local thing?

I think it was a fifties/sixties thing. But I'm not sure about that!
