Happy Purim to those who celebrate!

Somewhat related, a beautiful and poignant display of dioramas of Polish life in the 1930sIn other news, due to unfortunate circs, my mother had to leave her trailer park and she is about to move into a retirement facility. It's one she picked, and the window of her admittedly small room has a view of the ( Read more... )

Well, I loved this post and would certainly be interested in transcribed postcards, especially with your commentary. :)

What a wonderful set of memories! I so enjoyed reading about this and I would think your daughter would be fascinated.

Best of luck in getting your mom settled.

Sounds like quite the adventure. I, too, would be interested in the postcards or annotated postcards. So YMMV goes both ways. :-)

And I hope your mom's move goes well. My grandmother recently moved into an old-age home, too, and after the initial keruffle she's doing much better than she was before she moved

Happy Shushan Purim! It's lucky you didn't post this yesterday - I would have been to drunk to read and comment coherently.

I hope your mother's move is going well.

Inheritance is always a interesting thing. I was amazed when we went through my grandparent's things after their deaths. And of course, it's wonderful to see your own nostalgia. That's a wonderful postcard, I loved what you wrote and how you wrote it ('Hi you bums!', heh).

The idea of anti-semitism being buried deep, but there - well, people have written of it before. But yeah, it's kind of disturbing to see it in person. And really, the cultural divide between what we see on the surface and what the people felt - wider than the sea, as scripture says. I remember thinking something similar when reading of Armandros in Coronets and Steel - we can't imagine siding with Nazi Germany and joining the Luftwaffe, but who knows what he felt at the time was needed, and who was good and who was evil?

I hope your mother will be happy with her new place and her view of the ocean. Moving is so difficult. Even at the best of times.

I love the dioramas.

The postcards are cool. So many memories!

Yeah it's hard to sort and toss!

Thanks for the good wishes. She should be in by this time next week.
