I think I have a similar experience, though in my case what I can't talk about much is philosophy and political theory.

"Accepted as safe" seems to vary. When I met chorale's family, her brother was a Republican and her mother and sister were Democrats, and they had decided to ban talking about politics, because they couldn't take about it without getting angry. Now the cultural meaning of "Democrat" has changed, so both her siblings are conservative and her mother is somewhere in the middle, so politics is open again.

Well, safe might not be what some want--I've been in situations where two alphas of different political paradigms went at it, neither (of course) convincing the other, they just got louder and ranted louder, until everyone around them melted away and left them at it.

Back in the day aka high school I rode horses regularly, even learned to jump a little, and so every time I see you post about this place I get all ears-forward. I realize in looking back that as a non-owner of a horse, I never really got to know the three different horses I was able to ride. I envy that. I would enjoy what you did, I think! Getting to know a horse on such a level (or at least trying?:). Looking forward to DFWCon or whatever it is called. I hope you won't be shy when we meet lol, as I am likely to be, being you are YOU!!!! and I seriously adore your work and all you do here for writers (make us think, make us ponder, make us believe). LOL!!! Cons are hard work though, I agree, and I have always been a fringer.

I am really lucky to be able to come here, I know. It is always a wonderful experience, and I get tons done--no interruptions. No kitchen duty!

I love meeting new people, and am really looking forward to the ConDFW!

HA HA it IS ConDFW isn't it? I believe there is or was also a DFWCon. Crazy huh.

I can get plenty of uninterrupted time on weekends, just am bad about interrupting myself. I plan to work on that hard in 2015. FOCUS FOCUS NO EXCUSES. :)

Oh, to be a fly on the wall, and commune with writers and Lipps!

Then back in for more delicious food, and a long conversation about perceived patterns of change in publishing, and orthogonal hierarchies among writers.
