Montreal to outside Albany

You write so poetically about the area I grew up in! (about an hour south of Montreal, near Plattsburgh, NY).

I'm reminded of the Dar Williams song "Southern California Wants to Be Western New York," although this is emphatically not western NY :)

AAAH! I'm going back there for vacay starting next Friday. I cannot *wait*. Albany in the fall makes me so, so, so, so happy and now I'm homesick! :) Have so much fun!!

It is glorious--the sun came out today but it was not hot! At home, sun = hot. Period.

(poets have a tougher time hitting print than about anyone else)

Are you excluding small press when you say that? Because around here, there are a large number of small poetry presses. I'd say that at that level, prose writers have it harder. Certainly if we're talking paper rather than electronic publication...

Not excluding anyone--I am so ignorant about the poetry scene and about all small presses. We talked about HIS experience with the relative limitation of markets, and subsequently choosing to go to print on one's own.

That sounds like beautiful country and the most wonderful type of company.

You are very lucky to be out of southern California. We're having 100+ degrees right now.(This will be the 4th day of it.)

Also, for the record, you are never boring. :)

I'm a New Englander originally, so I understand the feeling for humanized landscapes. The bright spots of colour in amongst the green are different species of trees. The really blazing red is sugar maple. Some of the greens might even be pines or other evergreens. Most deciduous trees should be showing colour by now. Here the birches are golden, particularly lovely with their stark white trunks.

Happy you're having a good trip. Enjoy the conversations
