Between Worlds--an interview

Dec 28, 2013 07:14

Cultural appropriation and liminality, volcanoes and houseboats, why sometimes a writer has to go indie, discussed in this interview with Francesca Forrest.

I hope these questions and answers will engender some discussion--I really had fun doing it.

What a marvelous interview. I've always enjoyed reading Francesca's posts about Pen Pal, experiencing her love and enthusiasm for her novel, and this is so evident in the interview. It's a treat to read about the thoughts and interests and feelings that led to the creation of such a meaningful story.

It looks interesting, certainly. But having some acquaintance with some Southeast Asian countries (which are mostly quite different from each other and not at all culturally interchangeable), I think that I will not read it.

Ak! I apologize for constructing the interview so badly that I managed to convey the exact opposite of my intent. There is no assumption whatsoever that cultures are interchangeable. One of the conflicts is related to how very un interchangeable they are. Wow did I drop the ball. Very depressing.

No need to apologise, the misunderstanding was on my part!
