I can't resist adding two more photos, both taken from the window of the train as we whizzed through Colorado. Back to very dry air, and I made out the haze of wildfires across the sky, though no one said anything about major ones.

Oh, but the astonishingly brilliant shades of gold!

It is one of the parts of train travel that I adore. I wonder if it's the same in Europe? That would be so, so cool.

My friend helenraven seems to fall into conversations on her travels - but I think she has a knack for it. I haven't had that experience in Europe - but then, I've never spent more than a day on a train in Europe!

I really enjoy the shared seatings at dinner too. We've never had a truly dreadful dinner in conversation terms. The food is less interesting than I might prefer, but good conversation can make up for a lot of deficiencies.

The food definitely tries to reach that middle ground in tastes that borders on blandness, but some meals have been okay, especially considering the cramped kitchen facilities they have. But the real fun is the talk. I think only once has it been a frost.
