This made me so happy to learn, though I'm sad you won't be able to be there. But hey, Martha's Vineyard. . .:)

YES!!! I've never been to a conference before, but since I'm midway though my first real attempt at a novel (after several misguided or disorganized ones in high school and college) I think it's about time. I've been working on a YA retelling of a classic fairy tale, so this seems like a godsend... what an opportunity to gain new perspective before getting into my second draft! Now I just need to figure out how to get to Washington from Pittsburgh on my paycheck...

This would be my first chance at going, since otherwise it's a rough time of year for me to travel. Might even decide to commute from PDX...and if the hotel is the one I think it is, attendees will LOVE it. It's a gorgeous place!

Now I have a chance to go to it -- Colorado was just not going to happen, but Portland is much easier.

And if people don't want to wait that long to see Nalo Hopkinson, she and Shelley Jackson are Honored Guests for this year's FOGcon, March 30-April 1. (Mary Shelley is Honored Ghost.) Our theme is the Body.

Someday I would love to go!

I know you've mentioned cons in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area - do you recommend any in particular?
