There is some further debate about the legitimacy of fanfiction going around. I don't mean the copyright issue (which is vexing indeed) but its legitimacy as literature

I never get tired of recommending the not-yet completed Blue, which is a Babysitter's Club slashfic which gives the characters a really realistic, dynamic treatment.

There was also this TMNT fanfic I read years and years ago that I would love to find again--about Donatello attempting to make himself a device that would make him human, and failing. I would love to find that one again, but alas, I suspect it's a lost cause at this point.

The only one I can think of is one where Don was grating his shell off, but that was just a series of nightmares, not the main plot.
