Nabokov on genius and madness:

. . . A madman is reluctant to look at himself in a mirror because the face he sees is not his own: his personality is beheaded; that of the artist is increased ( Read more... )

So often the difference between any two events, in human nature, which are frequently (and mistakenly) confused, is discipline.

Also, so often, when I read the "so hot..." comments 'round about now, I remember that I need to update my "simple pleasures" list to "wearing a turtleneck in mid-June."

The only thing I like sunshine for is surfing and roses. I don't have beach for the former or much time for the latter: It's pouring rain and I couldn't be happier.

Blackspot is going to be dreadful this year, though.

Yes on discipline...dunno what blackspot is, but then if it has anything to do with rain, I wouldn't!

blackspot: killer fungus that denudes roses. Can be controlled by hella-chemical means, or, organically by fanatically monitoring the roses.

Oh my gosh, Hi!!! I'm a really big fan of yours!! I absolutely loved your book Crown Duel (I read the Firebird edition that included Court Duel :]) I just wanted to tell you that I admire your skills of writing a wonderful story. :) I have recently started to read the Wren series, and must say again, you are a truly talented writer. I'm very happy I was able to come across your stories. :) I hope that you continue to write stories and that you may always be successful, for you have worked hard to be an author. (And an remarkable one, too. :D)

Sorry if this was an unwanted comment. It's not everyday I find the opportunity to tell my favorite authors/artists (of music and of literature) how much I enjoy and admire their work. (^_^)V

I like the passage... it's very interesting. :)

Thank you! I am always writing stories...getting them actually read by editors seems to take many years longer than actually writing them.

Thanks again!
