Well, it's certainly nice to know that even great authors go through huge editing processes. :)

Like you, I maintain multiple books at any given time. Either a paperback and a hardback, or a book I can read in public and one I wouldn't, or a serious book and a junk books... or just hey, two or three books I'm in the middle of, so I can always find something to read. One in the car, one by the bed, one in the bathroom, 236 by the desk... :)

Oh, and yay Liaden. :)

I might have misspoken.
There are a few books I wouldn't read in public, if just because I'd have trouble explaining them. Francesa Lia Block's Nymph comes to mind.

Come to think of it, I'll read almost anything in public, unless it's erotica. I'd just feel too damned silly trying to explain it if someone asked.

It's mainly just a case of -wouldn't- read in public vs -can't-. A lot of that has to do with setting.

Okay, this makes little to no sense, but I know sooner or later I'll run across that situation, where I'll be reluctant to be seen reading something by other people for some reason or another, and then I'll want the backup.

Them: "Why are you reading...." "Junie B. Jones is Inexpicably Popular?"

Me: "Um.."
