Congratulations. Now you should start your campaign to get a corporate folding bicycle.

If only they'd let me on the train with it!

That is the good thing about folding bicycles. They do let them on the train, even in peak hour. You should come and have a look at mine.

Honestly, when I worked downtown, I would have given ANYTHING to be able to take the train. ANYTHING. The train station is a 5 minute drive from my house (although not within walking distance, plus major roads and no sidewalks) and the trip took only 40 minutes. Not only that, but there was just one connecting train, which stopped right outside my office building.

In contrast, on a bad day, the same trip by car could take from an hour to an hour and a half. Dodging bad drivers using cell phones. In the heat. Grrf.

Unfortunately, I worked evenings, and the last train stopped at 10. No train going home for me. Sadness.

A town with a sadder public transport system than Perth. Inconceivable!

The city to the south of us, Arlington, has a population of 365K. It's the third largest city in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (behind, obviously, Dallas and Fort Worth.) It's the seventh largest city in Texas, 50th largest in the nation.

It has not one, but two stadiums (one the recently built Cowboys Stadium, which, IIRC, will hold 100K people), a couple of fairly good sized universities, one of the larger amusement parks in the country and it's one of the fastest growing areas in Texas.

And it has no public transit system -at all-. (Nor a newspaper, for that matter, but in their defense, the Dallas and Fort Worth papers are pretty well established.)

...you probably don't want to hear that the vehicle of choice in Texas is a pick up or SUV, either, right?

So the good news is...Perth sounds better?? :D

I would have guessed that about the SUVs. Before I visited the US in 2006 I believed all Americans drove huge cars and then I landed in SF and was like, oh hey, this is just like home. And then I went to Florida. I have never seen such giant vehicles.

I'd have to ask fred_mouse for a firm opinion on what to bring. She can't have gluten, dairy or canned stuff and is generally vegetarian. (rice, eggs, pulses, vegies, corn chips (tacos, salad)) I expect that bringing nothing is an option.

I like the look of this one although it is still a shade big:

The one I have is a basic M type Brompton:
