Hmm...I see a flaw in my cunning plan.

I chose the excerpt about computers because I had been leaving both my laptop and my desktop in sleep mode most of the time, and I hardly even use the desktop anymore. Dragonfly's been reminding me to turn off the power at the wall for YEARS, but somehow in my mind computers just automatically got an exemption. So I was good last night and turned ( Read more... )

On a related note, I just watched the eco-watch segment on CNN and it was about how 1/3 of waste in Japanese rubbish tips is leftover food :-( That is so sad on many levels.

Have you read about how environmentally unsound it is to be cremated? This is where I put my not so delicate foot down. I bloody well hope there will be a greener solution (freeze drying then crushing the body for eg) by the time I fall off the twig because there is no way I am getting buried! (Maybe I should save this rant for my own LJ...sorry...)

I read somewhere (maybe on your lj!!) about a 'green' method of being cremated that's available in the UK, but not here. Hmm, have googled, still have the emissions from the body, but not having a coffin or, for example, YOUR MOBILE PHONE OR TV REMOTE helps a lot.

I like this idea by the author of Funeral Rights, a new book about the Australian funeral industry.

Larkins says a greener alternative to cremation is the creation of so-called natural burial grounds, which use the body in a way that helps the environment.

The idea is that burials take place in a natural surrounding, with native trees or wooden plaques taking the place of tombstones.

The body, contained in a biodegradable coffin or wrapped in a shroud, acts as a fertiliser, helping to regenerate the area.

Please feel free to rant on my lj any time. Or as I like to refer to it, discuss stuff.

I would gladly leave a provision in my will for the purchase of carbon offsets if it means I can get cremated. Hopefully there won't be too much left of me to burn after my corpse is harvested for body parts, anyway.

(Eccentric as it might be, even though I never had a 21st, or a wedding etc, I have quite rigid plans for my earthly send-off.)

That is a really nice idea - the natural burial grounds - for people who want to be buried.

(I like discussing stuff with you :-) *hugs* )
