Okay, so as a result of this post here, I'm back to thinking of this idea, even though there wasn't a whole lot of interest expressed in the post at the time
( Read more... )
I have no time (one reason I don't think I replied to the original post, though it did prompt a lot of thinking for me) but I would suggest doing it randomized -- that is, when a person enters the game, there's a flip of the virtual dice and the character then must deal with the designation, whatever it may be.
Seems to me then you'd also be able to navigate around some of the more prurient interests, like making X into gender Y just for the sake of eventually wriggling pr0n out of the deal. Or tell folks their first character is randomized but if they add a second character (on the grounds that now they have a better sense of things), that they can pick from then on... but it's a concept -- as delicious and thought-provoking as it is -- that's bound to create fertile pre-planning in authorial minds, and randomizing is a way to take those down a notch (plus, possibly, put a bit of chance into things that you might not get otherwise).
That's a pretty interesting idea, actually. Particularly doing that with a first character.
If I get to making an OOC comm, that's definitely something I'll put up for discussion. I don't think it's something I want to get myself attached to, but it would add a certain degree of chance to things that I like.
I was looking forward to when that Hippolyta whatever game was getting advertised, but I'll admit that the way they turned out the premise was kinda... creepy. I'd love to see one handled with a bit more sensitivity toward gender issues.

Slightly edited your words for a more fitting intro, but otherwise... there you go. Have fun.
