what brand would you recommend (or warn against)?
and why.

i searched lots and lots and ended up buying this exact one, has lots of memory, not terribly heavy, 3 USB ports, and intel centrino. i would highly recommend buying a wireless mouse as well.

oooh that's pretty zippy lappy. notebooks with 512MB DDR SDRAM are so darn costly here though :/
i hadnt even thought to consider a fujitsu siemens until i read this. so thankyou. :)

soup got an apple powerbook direct from the apple site, and he found out they make student discount if you're a student, follow the educational links. they're good too :)

ms office, internet, burn cds&dvd, run cd/dvd/cd-roms.
something fast that wont struggle with XP. something med lightweight that wouldnt get too bloody hot or be too pricey.

You made the right choice.
They have the best support.
It will prove itself when the first thing goes wrong.
