I make such things rewards for accomplishing OTHER more urgent things. Want a big screen? That's the self reward for a different higher paying job. Want a new car? That's the reward for replacing the entire home AC system. And so on and on.

Make the camaro the reward for completing the home repairs.

Yes that is a rational idea. :) I do a simular thing that you do Sara, but right now it is vinyl windows and a french door for the house addition. I want the best i can get at the best price. I LOVE a deal!! I want a ride in the new Camaro in March. ;)

I do that CONSTANTLY. I hate when I *want* something, because I tire myself out in that whole process! The only good part is that when (if) I do buy, I'm usually 100% happy with it. I often talk myself out of something because of the "need vs. want" argument. However, the seed remains planted and I re-assess the "want" all over again later.

I do the same myself. I've talked myself out of buying about 7 different phones in the past year. Talked myself out of Kindles for a few year S(until my sister got me one for Christmas). TYalked myself out of new dressers from ikea for about 7 years. :P
