Glossary of Vulcan terms/concepts used, from the Vulcan Language Dictionary (VLD)
Adun - husband - man joined to a woman in marriage, male spouse
Adun’a - wife - woman joined to a man in marriage, female spouse
Ahkhinahr - ancient training to become a battlefield psionic warrior
Aru - afternoon - part of day from noon till sunset
Ashayam - beloved - beloved person, used as a term of endearment, mainly in fanfiction
Kah-if-far - it is time - a High Vulcan expression; it is the opening phrase of the koon-ut-kalifee ceremony meaning “it is time” (TOS Amok Time)
Kah-if-fee - it is challenged - a High Vulcan expression meaning “it is challenged” (TOS Amok Time)
-kam - diminutive - denotes affection usually mother to child, suffix
Katra - soul - the living essence of a Vulcan; a combination of soul and memory
K'diwa - beloved - shortened form of address for beings who are each other's k'hat'n'dlawa; equated to the Terran term "beloved" people
ke-ta-yatar - martial arts form - the form of ke-tarya using deadly techniques; ancient fighting style designed to kill
ke-tarya - martial arts form - an ancient style of combat still practiced on Vulcan
Kevet-dutar - Ambassador - a diplomat of the highest rank; accredited as representative from one country to another
Klashausu - guard - one who protects, keeps watch, or accts as a sentinel
Ko-fu - daughter - female child
Ko’mekh - mother
Ko’mekh-il - grandmother
Koon'ul - betrothal - "The Joining" (WOK); betrothal at 7 years old marriage
Koon-ut - marriage - place of place of marriage; physical location marriage
Koon-ut so'lik - marriage proposal - formal marriage proposal (WOK) marriage
Koon-ut-kalifee - marriage challenge - place of place of marriage or challenge (VLI) (anc.) marriage
Le-matya - mammal, wild cat-like - omnivorous Vulcan animal, has poisonous claws, green-white diamond pattern in its fur
L-langon Mountains - mountains that border the Sas-a-shar desert
Llangon mountains - Na'nam, Komi province - famous mountain range
Ma’at - clan - clan, family group
Osu - sir - used as a form of polite address for a man; used as an honorific before the given name or the full name of baronets and knights
Osu - saint -a person officially recognized, especially by canonization, as being entitled to public veneration and capable of interceding for people on earth; a holy person
Ozh'esta - Vulcan kiss, finger embrace - touching the index and middle fingers between bondmates and/or t'hy'la
Plak-tau - Blood Fever - the final part of pon farr whereby the victim is rendered incapacitated and the only thought is to mate (VLI spelling) (anc.)
Pon'farr - mating time - Mating time, the entirety of the Vulcan mating phenomena
Reldai - priestess - female religious leader, ruler, or princess
Sa’mekh - father
Sa’mekh-al - grandfather
Sa-fu - son - male child
S'haile - lord - a male title of respectful address, does not necessarily imply a feudal liege
Sehlat bear-like animal a large bear-like animal with 6 inch fangs, often domesticated as a pet
Seleya - Na'nam - Xial province - mountain, temple
Suus mahna - ancient martial art - a form of ancient Vulcan martial arts; takes many years to learn; T'Pol taught some to the inhabitants of a mining colony to ward off Klingons (ENT - Marauders)
T'sai - Lady - female-specific honorific title
Ta'al - hand salute - the Vulcan hand-greeting/salute
T’hy’la - life friend - friend/lover/life long companion, blood sibling, soulmate, soulsib
Glossary of Other Made up terms & Acronyms
ceramcrete - ceramic concrete, building material that has the appearance of ceramic tiles and the durability of concrete.
CSO - Chief Science Officer
fleathers - made up term, fake leathers, f-leather, fleathers.
hoverbike - name says it all I hope, a primarily single person vehicle (i.e. motorbike) with antigrav capabilities.
Mithril - silvery metal used in creating enchanted objects, holds magic and is much more hard/durable. Can’t remember where I first read it.
VDF - Vulcan Defence Force - planetary police
VSA - Vulcan Science Academy
VSF - Vulcan Space Force
XO - Executive Officer, First Officer, Second In Command
