And for the record? This isn't about some Prize Fight between your brothers. Or some Destiny that can't be stopped! This is about YOU being too afraid to stand up to your family.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Dean Winchester, once again cutting through the bullshit excuses and calling it how he sees it.
Quite a bit of sneaky meta laced within the crack. Yay!!! So glad you loved it!
It was a truly awesome episode on every level. I personally loved the Gabriel reveal though I know a lot of people didn't.
That's the funny thing about season 5. Some of the best episodes of the entire series aired during this year, yet the season as a whole is my least favorite because of how shoddily the overall arc was strung together. I think it's just that season 4 set up so much awesome potential with the mytharc (which I never even cared about until season 4) and then the writers just seemed to lose all their momentum and took the easy, obvious route at just about every turn. I can't decide if it was because they got too ambitious or because they were suddenly paralyzed by their success (and season 6) and kind of just choked.
5x08 was just PURE JOY. \o/ I forgot for a moment that I was watching a DVD and reached for the remote to switch on "mute" when the herpes ad came on. lol That must have been something when it actually aired.
I think I'm slowly ending up the way you saw S5. It has been very hit or miss with me, more so than any previous season.
Aww that's too bad. As disappointed as I am, it always makes me feel sad when others also end up that way. *hugs* I thought maybe watching the season in concentration as opposed over a year with multiple hiatuses which give us too much time to knit-pick, may have alleviated some of the more egregious problems.
The thing is, this show has always had bad pacing and odd episode juxtaposition but because the bars was set so high in season 4 and the stakes were just so high this season, it's all the more frustrating and disappointment to me that they fell back on so many of their bad habits.
I know that Kripke was working on other projects and Sera was also working on season 6 while still writing season 5 so I think a lot of stuff seemed to fall through the cracks or wasn't thought through enough and it's really damaged their credibility with a lot of fans, I think.
*hugs you back* I'm deliang with a few things at home but nothing complicated, just distressing and annoying. Fandom-wise I'm bracing myself for season 6 of SPN, which is an habit I can't quit. Hee.
Gabriel. *fistpump* They even neatly had the "Trickster's" motivation in "Mystery Spot" make more sense in hindsight. I so had to bite my tongue when you compared the Trickster's set-ups with Zachariah's alterna-world back in "Terible Life" in an earlier meta. You almost had it. :)
Yes! I was happy about that, too. At first, I was a little unsure of where they were going, but it makes a lot of sense in retrospect, since his attention to the boys in Mystery Spot was rather bizarre at the time.
(I'm scared about 5x10. I don't know if the warnings mean to brace myself for bad writing, or to brace myself for something epic like 4x16. *frets*)
