I am just learning about house, but my station includes a great deal of songs with house roots as a genome. In my research I've learned a lot about the history of house, and a bit about the many different types of house, but I still don't know what makes house different from other forms of electronic music, and I'm sure I can't hear the difference.

i am in a similar position then, the only notable thing I have to say is that although i cant tell the difference yet, i do notice that I tend to like house where other electronica is hit or miss for me

I'm learning quickly. I can now distinguish each of the seven "major" genres of electronic music from each other, though I'm pretty hopeless on all the myriad sub genres, and I get confused when they overlap. Techno, Trance, and House are my favorites, probably in that order, but there is lot's of exploration to do. Trance and House are really big though, and house especially has some permutations I really don't enjoy.
