The first experiment with silk reeling is complete. Giulia and I were promised that the pupae soup would smell like dead bugs, and it did. As smells go, it's notably less bad than others I've experienced. The downside is that it lingers. I can still smell it after an Indian dinner. Oh well. The silk is very, very pretty. what were you doing and what would you use it for? (this is me being curious and trying not to sound stupid)

We reeled silk off of the cocoons. It makes very shiney thread. I might do a little embroidery. I'd like to dye some of it. But for the time being I'm terribly content with just admiring it. It's all shiney!

I'm not sure yet. Giulia's idea about embroidery floss is probably a good one, since it doesn't require huge amounts.

Alas there are no pictures. I don't think either one of us really had time to manage pictures. But it was great fun.
