Now for something not quite different.

As if to prove that I am still capable of non-nerdy crafts, but really because I thought they were cool and I didn't have any winter-themed door decorations, I made a patchwork wreath after this tutorial for the winter in red, green, and white. It was more chunky than the example; I just kept wrapping it in batting. Turned out nicely, though ( Read more... )

Is it also the case in the manga that Amiboshi loses his shirt for no apparent reason when trying to help out with Miaka's fever? I mean, yeah, squee, but...

You know, I noticed something very similar when I watched Fushigi Yuugi.... Never read the manga, but I saw the anime. And actually, it was indeed one of the first shows that I saw. It's definitely an "entry" sort of series. Funny, really; a couple years ago, I got vol. 1 on DVD when I saw it was out, thinking "Ooo, nostalgia and stuff!" Then I settle down with it and it's like, "You know, this feels a lot different than how I remembered it...." Funny how your perceptions change. I'll probably acquire the rest in due course anyway, though, even if it's a low priority. If for no other reason than that I think the Evanescence song "Everybody's Fool" would make a good AMV for Yui. Also, I've heard several people really rave about Kino's Journey. I think I'll have to check that one out at some point.

cyannas had a similar experience; it was the first animé series she ever saw, when I showed her the whole thing in 2003. Now she re-watches it five years later and finds herself laughing at all the clichés and over-the-top moments she just didn't find funny back then due to lack of experience.

... and it turns out that we BOTH saw "This Is Otakudom" (though at different times) before actually seeing Fushigi Yuugi. Oops.

I was lucky; I did indeed see that after the fact. ;) Now, I must admit that even when I saw it, I found some of the over the top stuff snicker-worthy. I'm sure I'd poke fun even more now that I'm a lot more experienced. Hopefully I'd still find something good there, though! Hey, if nothing else, the opening theme song is really good. :)

It certainly is, though I think I liked it better when Madonna sang it in the 80s...
