SPEAKING of shitty movies, Shaolin vs. Vampire is for sale at BestBuy. XD

And yeah, as far as weddings go... I fucking HATE them. Just the concept of going into debt for the forseeable future or forcing your family to pay so you can play Pretty Princess for a day and all the extended family gets a free buffet... not for me. It seems to take a lot of planning and induces a ton of stress too, so I'm not looking forward to having to go through all that myself.

My grandparents both had post-War weddings where both the bride and groom wore Sunday suits and got hitched with a judge, but everyone after that had elaborate church weddings. I'm hoping nobody will be too offended if I go casual for mine.

From my own family's experiences, I'd been expecting a firehouse or a VFW hall or something like that. For example, my own parents' wedding reception was at a VFW hall, with a side room set up with an Atari console for their many nerdy friends. (And they decided against the bouquet and garter, too.)
It wasn't until I attended a wedding in cyannas's extended family that I realized that ours might not end up being the same way.

But her parents are willing to pay for it (there's three other girls in the family and, AFAIK, they're still counting on funding all of theirs as well), and I've been assured that they are finding good deals wherever possible and not going into debt over it.

Plus, it's not for appearances' sake -- a reception hall is what cyannas *wants*. (She said, for example, that a reception in a firehouse would remind her of her 16th birthday party, and (while the party was fine) she doesn't want that.) And the place isn't so fancy as to be intimidating (I have seen photos of other places that are ( ... )

My belief is that everyone should have the type of wedding that they really want. For some, that is a blowout, and I congratulate them for that. I just think that there is pressure to conform, or overreach yourself, even if that's not what you really want. That's what I fret about. Not so much the final result as the reasons for doing them. I wouldn't want to pressure anyone into what I'm doing because "it's how it should be done."

Stacie and I didn't spend a ton on our wedding, and it was awesome. My advice is don't try to make it super-pricey just for the show of the thing; have the wedding you want to have. We decorated ourselves in a faerie-garden theme, served fried chicken and pasta and homemade cookies (contributed by Stacie's vast troop of Italian relatives, who reflexively start baking he moment they hear a wedding date), and held it in the Sokol Club down on Carson. It was awesome and everyone there had fun, and that's something we'll treasure forever.

I think the key is to do what fits you - well, up until you require your guests to walk in on handstands or something. ;P I freak out over peer pressure and "upselling" by the vendors.
