Book rec thread elsewhere (NTS, mostly)

I know I still haven't gotten to all the books people recommended way back when, but also, for future reference, megatons of titles dropped here.

(I suck at shopping for novels, for some reason, and rely mostly on recommendations and on reading whatever comes my way second-hand.)

recs, books

This was mentioned in the second of those links, but I'm going to invoke my One True Fandom Whorage yet again: Dragaera. The author is Steven Brust, and he has two series in this setting, one starting with Jhereg (if you can find The Book of Jhereg, that has the first three) and the other with The Phoenix Guards. The first series is quick and witty and has an unusually modernish attitude, and is many books long (but short books) and going; the second is slow and witty and is likely to either aggravate you or make you giddy, depending how you feel about really long sentences, unnecessary tangents, and in general writing like a torturously slow contortionist act. Both are delectably excellent.
...Uh, stop me if you've heard this one.

I don't think I have heard of them - or if I have, it leaked back out of my brain. Thanks, I'll have to look into that. :)
